Explore the excavated ruins of the fascinating city of Pompeii in the company of a very knowledgeable guide. On this 2.5 hour tour you walk the ancient cobbled streets to see the ruins of the forum, bathhouse, individual homes and even a brothel.
You make your own way to the excavations at Pompeii – a very easy train ride from Naples to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii Scavi Station. You will then meet up with your guide at the coffee shop in the Hotel Vittorio, not far from the main entrance to the archaeological site.
Your will then enter the ancient city of Pompeii and your guide will transport you back in time to wonder at this amazing city, preserved in time, when the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD buried the entire city and its inhabitants in volcanic ash.
You walk the ancient Roman cobblestone streets and see the ruts left by wagon wheels all those centuries ago. There is a visit to the theatre where the citizens of Pompeii watched both popular comedies and tragedies. Then on to the thermal bathhouse where people went regularly to bathe, exercise and gossip. You can even take a look into the remains of many local businesses; restaurants, bars, and shops that would have sold food and clothing.
At the heart of any Roman city was the forum and in Pompeii’s you can see the ruins of both temples and civic buildings. The forum is where the priests and politicians spent their time and where religion and government came together. You can also see the barracks where the Roman Gladiators once lived and trained. One of the most popular attractions is the rebuilt brothel; make sure you don’t miss it!
Don’t forget to take a hat to shade you from the sun and wear comfortable shoes. You will actually be walking on lava rock!
